No-Till Equipment Rentals

A partnership of conservation organizations is making no-till equipment available on a rental basis. The equipment is used to seed or overseed pastures. No-till practices save energy by reducing tillage passes and reduce soil erosion by leaving a protective layer of crop residue on the soil surface.

No-Till Drill and Tractor

Equipment Available

Harvester

Paratill

Sprigger

A partnership of conservation organizations are renting the following equipment to farmers in the Coastal, Ogeechee River and Satilla River SWCD's:

  • Powell Manufacturing Aerator

  • Bermuda King Harvester and Sprigger

  • John Deere and Haybuster No-Till Drills

  • Tye Paratill

  • Scalper

The rent is used to cover the coast of operating and maintaining the equipment and replacing it at the end of its useful life. This equipment enables producers to protect and improve their soils without purchasing their own equipment.

Additional Benefits to No-Till Farming:

  • The harvester and sprigger give farmers the capability to convert tilled cropland to permanent pasture or hayland. Converting annually tilled cropland to permannet forage reduces erosion by over 90% because it provides year round coverage on the soil.

  • No-till equipment allows producers to plant without exposing the soil surface to the erosive impact of rain. It saves energy and reduces soil erosion. It increases organic matter and nutrient levels and improves soil physical characteristics. Using no-till drills can help you satisfy Farm Bill requirements on Highly Erodible Land (HEL).

  • The paratill breaks up compacted layers which slow or stop root growth. It improves drainage and soil aeration so roots can breathe. You will need a 150hp tractor for the Paratill

  • The aerator helps get oxygen to plant roots in pastures compacted by heavy cattle traffic.

  • The scalper clears a path through existing sod to help forest plantings get a head start on growth.
